40 Days For Life
February 17, 2010
During 40 days (February 17 - March 29), in addition to prayer and fasting for an end to abortion in America, please consider volunteering to peacefully pray outside of the Woman's Choice abortion mill in Lansing for two or more hours during 40 days. We are trying to fill Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21 from 8:00am to 8:00pm on both days. Please do not underestimate the difference your prayers and sacrifices can make! The sign-up sheet is in the back of church.

Stations of the Cross
During Lent we will be having Stations of the Cross after the Tuesday evening Mass which begins at 6:15pm.

Lent
Lent is the season that prepares us to celebrate Easter. On Easter we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, the Son of God, whose passage beyond death into life offers redemption to believers. The resurrection is the cornerstone of Christian faith. The mystery of Christ's rising from the dead is so deep that the church invites us to six weeks of preparation before we fully celebrate it .

For the faithful, Lent is a time of penitential practices and spiritual discipline. During this time we acknowledge our sins and seek God's help to overcome them. Traditionally, we engage in acts of prayers, fasting and alsmsgiving. Together these actions show our dependence on God, our renunciation of the fascinations of this world, and our desire to better the lives of others

Fasting
Fasting is observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by everyone 14 years of age and older, who has not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals- enough to maintain strength - may be taken, according to each one's needs. But together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but consuming liquids, including milk and juices , is allowed

Abstinence
Abstinence is observed on All Fridays of Lent by everyone 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed.
One point of fasting and abstinence is to remind us of our radical need for God's support as we undergo conversion in his love.

Community Events

Marriage Encounter Weekend: The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend is March 5-7 in Kalamazoo. Please make reservations by contacting Bob & JeanAnn McCann at 616-847-0582.

Kindergarten Registration: Registration for the 2010-2011 school year will be held Wednesday, February 24 at the P-W High School Auditorium beginning at 7:00pm. Children must be five before December 1, 2010, to be eligible.

Lenten Fish Dinners: There will be two Lenten Fish Dinners at St. Mary's Hall in Westphalia on February 26 and March 12 from 4:30pm to 7:00pm. Cost for adults is $8.00, $4.00 for children 5-12 and $1.00 for children 4 and under. The proceeds will go to St. Mary's Catholic School.

The Christian Mothers and Fowler K of C are hosting fish dinners at Most Holy Trinity Activity Center in Fowler on February 19th and March 5th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Cost for the dinner is $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for children ages 5-12 and $2.00 for children under five. Take out is available for $7.00.
